Buyers seeking to buy new furniture can look to antique dealers and online auctions to find the most affordable used furniture available.
Auctioneer Kevin Lee, who is based in the U.K., said the prices he sees are generally lower than those on eBay and Craigslist.
“Most people look at the prices and they think it’s a bargain, but the truth is it’s not,” Lee said.
“Most people would say that the quality of the pieces is a bargain compared to what they’re paying for.”
Lee said buyers typically search for used furniture that’s in “excellent condition,” with the same colors and materials that the furniture is usually made of.
They also want to avoid any items that have been damaged, such as furniture that is missing a frame.
For those looking to buy a vintage chair, there’s a similar process to find a used one, but Lee said the pieces must be “in perfect condition” to be considered a “good deal.”
Lee also said the best time to search for an antique furniture piece is when you’re looking for something that was purchased before the Internet age.
“It’s just as important as ever to go online and look at different types of things,” he said.
